Upton Australia Proudly Appointed as Distributor for EVS International

EVS International, the leader in solder recovery, announces that it has recently appointed Upton Australia Pty. Ltd as its distributor in Australia. Upton Australia serves a national customer base from its headquarters in Bayswater, Victoria.

Upton Australia is a leading supplier of PCB manufacturing, rework and repair equipment and services, serving a broad range of industries including communications, computer, industrial, automotive, avionic and military. In addition, Upton Australia Pty. Ltd. is a master IPC-certified training center certifying students and instructors in J-STD-001, IPC-610 and IPC 7711 and 7721 material.

When asked to comment, Kevin Salliard of Upton Australia stated that “Upton Australia Pty. Ltd is proud to be appointed EVS International’s distributor in Australia. The values that both companies hold are very similar. We believe that recycling solder dross into perfectly usable solder has commercial considerations, but the environmental benefits are more important. Upton Australia and EVS International are pleased to announce that these factors were the cornerstone in Robert Bosch Australia’s decision in investing in EVS equipment.”

EVS International is globally recognized as a multiple award-winning leader in solder recovery and EVS machines fit perfectly with the ISO1 4001 mantra of Recycle–Reduce-Reuse.  Upton Australia is a fantastic addition and will be a great representative for EVS International.  Customers in Australia will now have easier access to EVS machines than ever before.

MAY 2010

EVS International To Exhibit At SMT Nuremberg

Hall 9, Stand No 512D

EVS International, the leader in solder recovery announces that it is to exhibit the multiple award winning  EVS 1000 Solder Recovery System with German distributor Microtronic at the upcoming SMT/Hybrid/Packaging Nuremberg which is scheduled to take place June 8-10 2010 at Messezentrum, Nuremberg.

The EVS 1000 is a smaller, lighter version of the popular EVS 3000/6000, with all of the recovery performance of the standard and lead-free solder units. The smaller size and footprint help to reduce the cost, but still provide a capacity of 10lb/5kg of dross, giving a rapid payback and impressive return on capital employed. The EVS 1000 can quickly convert waste dross into pure solder in minutes not hours, while improving the wave solder machine process. This provides a cleaner wave with less maintenance, less downtime, and a reduction in shorts and bridging as well as the potential to discontinue the use of messy wave oils and/or dross reduction powders. Each model of the EVS Solder recovery system has a Lead and Lead Free version.

The EVS 1000 is aimed at small to medium users who typically have one to three wave solder machines and who must regularly dedross or use nitrogen to reduce drossing. This group currently comprises the majority of users in the industry. By using the EVS, nitrogen can be dramatically reduced or eliminated, resulting in significant cost savings. The EVS 1000 has vastly increased EVS International's coverage of the wave solder marketplace and has revolutionized its total market penetration.

EVS International’s highly successful EVS 1000 has gained global approval with multiple industry awards including “Winner of Best Product” and “Best Environmental Product” at APEX USA 08 and NEPCON CHINA 08 and “Product of the Year” at the most recent Productronica, .Germany

EVS International’s EVS 9000 Wins a 2010 NPI Award

EVS International announces that it has been awarded an NPI Award in the category of Soldering-Other for its EVS 9000 solder recovery system. The award was presented to the company during a Tuesday, April 6, 2010 ceremony that took place in the Mandalay Bay Resort & Convention Center in Las Vegas during APEX 2010.

EVS International worked with the global marketplace to gain invaluable feedback from which to develop solder dross recovery solutions that satisfy the high standards required from a modern manufacturing environment — particularly with regard to reliability, ease of operation, maintenance and environmental management. The new EVS 9000 is a culmination of this process and offers manufacturers solutions for all of these issues with reduced footprint, advanced electronic controls and integrated diagnostics.

The EVS 9000 offers a capacity of 20 kg/40 lb, and has the ability for single operation de-drossing of even the largest wave soldering machines. Its integrated hopper makes rapid transfer of dross both simpler and safer, and speeds de-drossing times by up to 70 percent. This provides a cleaner wave with less maintenance, less downtime and a reduction in shorts and bridging, as well as the potential to discontinue the use of messy wave oils and/or dross reduction powders.

The process uses heat and pressure inside a magnetized cylinder to separate and return pure solder into an ingot tray. The remainder of the material is automatically ejected down a sealed chute into a dross bucket. Hundreds of solder assays prove that the recovered pure solder is exactly the same specification as the solder in the WSM pot. This has been authenticated by the solder manufacturers and confirmed by the International Tin Research Institute. EVS International supports its product through 24-hour availability of spares and service and by partnering with quality distributors who have trained technicians and comprehensive spares stockholding.

The system offers the benefit of a rapid return on investment by recovering 50-70 percent pure solder from dross, with savings of up to 50 percent in solder costs. It will reduce dross off site by up to 70 percent, while reducing de-drossing time by up to 70 percent. The system provides a self-contained process to reduce the handling of dross and uses no chemicals or additives. The EVS 9000 will help a company to attain and retain ISO14001 accreditation; with the added benefit of improving wave solder machine effectiveness. These new solution follows on the heels of EVS International’s highly successful EVS 1000, which gained global approval with multiple industry awards, including “Product of the Year” at the most recent Productronica.

EVS Director, Simon Norman adds, “As manufacturers increasingly feel the effects of the current economic downturn, more and more companies will be looking at EVS Solder Recovery Systems as a highly effective way of reducing costs.”

Premiering in 2008, the NPI Awards program is an annual celebration of product excellence in electronics surface mount assembly. Premier products based on the finest examples of creative advancement in technology are chosen by a distinguished panel of industry experts.

EVS International Hosted Seminar for Taiwanese Manufacturers

EVS International, a provider of solder dross recovery solutions, hosted a seminar organized by distributor Islandtek International, with the purpose of educating Taiwanese engineers on ‘improving efficiency and saving money’ using the latest technology and products. The company was invited to present to a packed room of some 75 plus engineers on the subject of solder dross recovery and how their range of machine solutions can offer very real and significant efficiency, process and cost improvements. The engineers, who attended from all over Taiwan, proved an eager audience, presenting their own informed questions on the subject of solder dross recovery and taking part in the ‘up close’ section of the day, taking the opportunity to look over the EVS equipment on show. EVS International was then invited to take part in individual facility site visits.

Simon Norman, Director at EVS International explains: “We were delighted to be invited to take part in an educational session such as the one organized by our partner Islandtek. By automating the solder dross recovery from the wave soldering process, companies can improve their wave soldering machine process, reduce de-drossing time by up to 80 percent and solder purchases by up to 50 percent. It also has the potential to enable manufactures to discontinue the highly labour intensive use of messy wave oils and/or dross reduction powders and to reduce, or even cease the extremely costly use of nitrogen inertion. Sessions like this enable us to get these very important messages out to the industry. The electronics industry is now switching on to the benefits of ISO14001 and gaining or retaining this accreditation is significantly helped by recycling dross at the point of manufacture.”

Other participating companies included OK International, specialist suppliers of bench top soldering and desoldering tools, array package rework equipment, fluid dispensing systems and accessories, and fume extraction systems. Together with Pillarhouse UK a leading supplier of selective soldering systems.

MARCH 2009

EVS Int'l Showcases EVS 7000 Solder Dross Recovery Solution at APEX

EVS International, the leader in solder recovery, will exhibit the EVS 7000 system, which represents a quantum leap forward in the processing of solder dross, in booth 1236 at the upcoming APEX exhibition and conference, scheduled to take place March 31-April 2, 2009 in Las Vegas.

EVS International worked with the global marketplace to gain invaluable feedback from which to develop solder dross recovery solutions that satisfy the high standards required from a modern manufacturing environment — particularly with regard to reliability, ease of operation, maintenance and environmental management. The new EVS 7000 is a culmination of this process and offers manufacturers solutions for all of these issues with reduced footprint, advanced electronic controls and integrated diagnostics.

The EVS7000 offers a capacity of 10 kg/20 lb, and has the ability for single operation de-drossing of even the largest wave soldering machines. Its integrated hopper makes rapid transfer of dross both simpler and safer, and speeds de-drossing times by up to 75 percent.

EVS International wins VISION award for solder recovery systems PDF Print E-mail
Tuesday, 30 January 2007

EVS International has been awarded a SMT VISION Award in the category of Solder Equipment for its innovative EVS 3000 and EVS 6000 solder recovery systems. The crystal glass award will be presented to EVS International during a Monday, February 19, 2007 ceremony that will take place at the Wilshire Grand Hotel in Los Angeles before the start of APEX.

The NEW EVS 1000, EVS 3000 and EVS 6000 systems are part of the EVS Series, which represents a quantum leap forward in the processing of solder dross. Its sleek lines confirm its streamlined systems, advanced electronic controls and integrated diagnostics. Extensive feedback from the market has enabled EVS International to offer a machine that satisfies the high standards required from a modern manufacturing environment particularly with regard to reliability, ease of operation, maintenance and environmental management.

Offering capacities of 5kg/10lbs (EVS 1000), 10kg/20lbs (EVS 3000) up to 20kg/44lbs (EVS 6000), the new EVS has (in most cases) the facility for single operation dedrossing of even the largest wave soldering machines. Its large integrated hopper makes rapid transfer of dross both simpler and safer, and speeds dedrossing times by up to 50 percent.

The process used by the EVS series is unique to EVS International and is protected worldwide by established and pending patents. Simple in concept but revolutionary in its effect, the series breaks new ground in the efficient regeneration of waste in a shop floor environment.

The EVS is an enclosed automated system. Hot dross is loaded into the large hopper and sealed into the machine. The process, once started by the operator, recovers the solder into a solder tray in the form of ingots that are easily placed back into the solder pot and deposits the spent dross automatically through a chute to a covered dross bin. Air is extracted via a powerful standalone, four-part filtration system, which ensures that the emitted air is usually cleaner than the surrounding workplace.

A Hopper Extraction System is used to prevent the escape of any fumes and dust that may be generated when loading. An automatic air-knife cools the molten solder ingots until they are safe to handle. Premature removal of the ingot tray is prevented by a safety lock. Handling and moving of dross is reduced to a minimum as it is contained within the EVS until it is automatically ejected into the dross bucket.

Extensive safety features are built into the machine protecting against misuse and abuse. A variety of switches and sensors are deployed and electrical and electronic circuitry is fuse protected. Maintenance is assisted by prompts from the LCD read out and facilitated by easy access to all working parts of the machine. Routine cleaning can be carried out from a comfortable standing position.

The new EVS is designed for simple, one-person operation on the shop floor using existing staff. There are no complex installation procedures, just plug it in to a single-phase supply and a six bar airline and it is ready to go.

Once the new EVS has reached operating temperature, hot dross can be loaded and the hopper door shut. After the start button has been pushed, no further operator intervention is required until the solder ingots are removed. The cycle takes six minutes plus cooling time.
The new EVS is managed by an advanced microprocessor control system integrated into the cover structure. Its clearly labeled facia includes function buttons, an LCD display and LED indicator lights.

Now in its 15th year, the SMT VISION Awards program is an annual celebration of product excellence in electronics surface mount assembly. Premier products based on the finest examples of creative advancement in technology in 22 key areas are chosen by a distinguished panel of industry experts. www.solderrecovery.com

Sono-Tek Corporation Milton NY USA Named Exclusive Distributor for EVS International Solder Recovery Systems..

EVS International announces that it has signed an agreement with Sono-Tek (Milton, NY) making Sono-Tek the exclusive distributor of EVS Solder Recovery Systems throughout the U.S. and Canada. EVS Solder Recovery Systems reclaim 75% pure solder from the oxide-laden dross created in the solder pot used in wave-solder processing of printed circuit assemblies. Traditionally, the printed circuit board assembler has always returned the dross to the solder manufacturer. With the EVS Solder Recovery System, the pure solder is reclaimed by the customer and put back directly into the wave solder machine.

EVS systems not only offer assemblers the ability to reduce Lead or Lead-Free solder costs dramatically (ROIs of months are not uncommon), but they are also important for promoting good environmental practices (as promulgated in the ISO14001 standard), in that they enable companies to recycle, reduce, and reclaim, the core components of the ISO 14001 standard.

CEO and President of Sono-Tek Corporation, Dr. Christopher L. Coccio stated, "The EVS Solder Recovery System is synergistic with our SonoFlux spray fluxing system product line. Both are used in through-hole wave-solder processing. The contacts we deal with at printed circuit board manufacturers that specify spray fluxing equipment, are the same people that will specify EVS Solder Recovery equipment."

Vice President of Sales for EVS International, Simon G Norman, commented, "Sono-Tek's unrivalled position in providing ultrasonic spray fluxing systems and their worldwide reputation for service, support and innovation make them a natural partner for the world's leading Solder Recovery System."

Major USA Manufacture installs SEVEN new EVS 6000 Solder Recovery Systems

A Major USA manufacture has installed seven EVS 6000 Solder Recovery Systems.

With the significant rise in the cost of solder, the impending implementation of Lead Free Alloys and the huge increase in cost this will bring a major USA manufacturer has installed seven EVS 6000 Solder Recovery Systems.

Not only did the EVS give a substantial Return On Investment, months not years, but the environmental dept took great pleasure and pride in the installation of the EVS systems as they fitted  perfectly with their company’s ISO 14001 mantra of Recycling, Re-use and Reduce in both primary product and waste from manufacturing.

The Engineering Manager who introduced this unique concept of on site recovery stated, “The unit is so easy to use and fitted in so well with our processes that we were saving dollars within one hour of the machine being commissioned.  They actually perform exactly as the company claims, quality recovered solder from what was previously sent away as waste.  ISO14001 love the concept and we saved thousands of dollars at the same time”.
